Windows Mobile - Can't send Email

I ran into a problem with my Samsung Saga running Windows Mobile 6.1. I was in a location where I was using wireless and the wireless provider had blocked the email ports. I thought "No problem, I'll just send this when I get outside". I was still getting the error that "The message(s) cannot be sent..."

I played around with my email provider to no avail. I found the only way to fix the problem was to delete the email account from my phone and re-create it. That certainly is not an optimal fix.

It was getting to the point of really killing productivity so I took a look into it. I found that there is a Windows Hotfix that addresses the issue for Windows Mobile 6.1

I opted to download the CAB file and copy it to my device. After I ran it, it seems that the email issue is finally fixed. You can check out the Microsoft email fix page for more informaiton

So far it seems to work for me. Your mileage may vary.

Your cell phone can be used to spy on you.

This is extremely creepy. I've known about this for a while but erroneously supposed that only the Government was able to spy on you using your cell phone.

The creepy part is that someone can listen in to your conversations even when the phone is not being used. The safest way to have a secure discussion when you are meeting with someone is to remove your cellphone battery (or use a homemade Faraday Cage)

Software can be installed. With today's internet and email capable phones, the problem becomes more pervasive. Make sure that you don't allow access to your phone. Keep control of it at all times and protect it with a password. A friend "borrowing your phone to make a call" could give them enough time to install spy software on your phone.

Sprint Aircard with Sprint Smartview and a Samsung Saga error

I have a netbook running Window XP. I was in a remote location using my Sprint Aircard with the Sprint Smartview software. My battery was dying on my Samsung Saga Phone so I tried my iGo charger. The problem was that the rechargeble batteries I had just purchased were not charged. I plugged the Saga into my netbook using the sync cable (which provides a charge)

I then noticed that my aircard was not connecting giving me a message that "Duplicate connections are not allowed" . I didn't realize that the problem was that I also had the phone attached. I tried rebooting the netbook but still got the same connection error. Then I realized that the problem might be that the phone was establishing some sort of connection.

I disconnected the phone, and, sure enough, the aircard worked fine. Problem solved (except for the low battery level. ) I have to make a decision now - Internet or Phone charging, at least until I can get a decent set of batteries for the igo Charger.

The case of the strange computer

I got a call for a home machine that was infected with a virus. We picked up the machine and cleaned it up. It seemed to be working well when we returned it to the client.

The client called and said it was not working. We went out and , sure enough, it was hardly responding. We took it back to the shop. Once again it worked well.

Conclusion: A piece of hardware at the client's site was crashing the computer

Workaround for Vista photo printing

I have an HP Laserjet 1012 on a print server on my soho network. The problem is that it is not visible from the Vista print dialog. I needed to print some docs that were scanned as jpgs

I found an easy workaround. Simply print the pics to a pdf. If you have acrobat, it will be easy to so. If not, you can download a free appp such as cutepdf. Once you have the pages in pdfc formt you should be able to easily print the pdf.

Now,if the eggheads at microsoft would just fix the print feature...
